First win for Sharks

For those of you that know me best, you understand that I'm not the biggest on wins and losses for 10 and 11 year old kids. My firm belief is that if you do things the right way and play as a team, the wins will happen. As they say, sometimes the shots fall and other times they don't. Most of the scores for this age of basketball are in the 18 to 20 point range. So that means that each team might make 8 to 10 shots in the entire game. If one team makes two more of their shots than the other team I look at it as an eight-point swing. So what rolls in for one team, rolls out for the other and a team wins 20-12 or something like that.

But with all of that being said, our Sharks were 0-4 to start off the season. We've played well but not our best for an entire game. Like Doc Sadler, I talked to the team after the last game and said we were doing things right but we just needed some things to go our way and to stick with what we were teaching them. I just thought a win at this point was very important because it gets into their brain that they aren't as good, even though they are.

Something clicked because we played an outstanding first quarter. We were doing all of the little things that we stressed so much. We had to hang on at the end but they played a great game. You can read a recap on my Sharks Basketball blog over on the right side of the page. Enjoy!

So it begins...

My schedule starts picking up again today as the class I teach at UNL (JGen 300) starts. I'm teaching on Tuesday's and Thursday's this semester from 9:30-10:45. I hope I have a great class like last semester. We will see. This will be my third semester teaching the class so I feel a lot more comfortable heading into it. I have all of the weeks figured out and the days will be much busier because I'm trying to pack the three days into two. Maybe one of the students will bring me an apple!
