I had a chance to go down to Salina, Kansas and spend the afternoon with one of my former co-workers, Chris Orr. Chris is a special friend of mine because we worked so closely together at the Daily Globe in Dodge City. As many of you know, he was injured in an accident in Lawrence almost exactly six months ago but as Chris says, "I'm doing good." And he definitely is!
I've included a couple of links to stories to let you read his story:

Anyway, we visited Chris in the KU Medical Center back in December just a month or so after his accident and people saying that he might not survive. At the time, I knew that he was going to. He was feisty even then.
Now he is more feisty than ever. The old Chris. He was joking around. He said that on Friday he even went out and hit some golf balls with his sister-in-law. Amazing! Chris and I played quite a bit of golf together with our evening schedules in Dodge City. He even said he remembered playing at Mariah Hills back then. I kept trying to bring up more memories for his during our talk. I'm excited for him to keep remembering more and more.
We discussed our mutual favorite baseball team, the Royals, and he feels like I do that Alex Gordon will be the next George Brett. Both his boys are playing baseball right now so that is cool too!
Wow! Good job Chris and keep improving. The people in Kansas need your sports writing abilities.
