michael phelps and running

I gain more of an appreciation every day of my life for people that do outstanding things. Michael Phelps and his Olympic performance is, of course, amazing. The amount of training that a person needs to do to accomplish what he has done -- eight gold medals in one Olympics -- is truly outstanding.

I've slacked off on my running a little bit as I don't plan to run any more races until the Spring and it's hard to keep going this year, especially with the heat. I did finally get out and run 5 miles tonight in like 51:31 in 84 degree weather. It's different when you run that long. It gives you more time to think about a lot of things and I like that. It puts me in a great frame of mind and helps me regain my focus heading into the final week before teaching starts again.

My cousin Greg ran the Pikes Peak Marathon this morning. Kudos to him. You should look it up online. He texted and said he ran it in over 7 hours and there were three inches of snow at the top of the mountain. Amazing. Talk about a great accomplishment. I'm so proud of him.

So it begins...

My schedule starts picking up again today as the class I teach at UNL (JGen 300) starts. I'm teaching on Tuesday's and Thursday's this semester from 9:30-10:45. I hope I have a great class like last semester. We will see. This will be my third semester teaching the class so I feel a lot more comfortable heading into it. I have all of the weeks figured out and the days will be much busier because I'm trying to pack the three days into two. Maybe one of the students will bring me an apple!
