I think we all work better under deadlines no matter what it is. If people are coming over to the house and you need to clean up you work better under the pressure of doing it and getting it done. I'm getting much better at getting things done even before hand but it is a tough transition. When I was in newspapers, it was hard because every night there was a stiff deadline so you didn't have much of a change to work on advance items. That being the case, I have completed my cover story for L on Joe Hampton that isn't due for a couple of weeks. I have a pretty good feel for the Laura Saf story that goes inside and I've already done my interview with Shoemaker's so I feel pretty good about them.
I'm a little worried about Bret's deadline though. It's the first time that he has worked on a major project a school that I didn't get involved much. Usually when he gives a speech we help him through it in different ways. He has been working on this one all semester though and I think today is the day that he needs to present it. The reason I say I think is because he hasn't talked with us much about it. I helped line something up for him to meet with a person but other than that -- not much. I did help him get some notecards this morning from a drawer. When we got into the car I was like, what are you going to do with those (I'm not sure why I asked). He said, oh just jotting some things down for the speech. I could see one of them was the intro, the second was the body and the third was the conclusion. I guess maybe he works better on deadline too. We will see how it all comes out!

I work better on deadline, too. Makes me much more focused.
