selling Christmas trees

This is from part of Peggy Noonan's Column. You can read the whole thing by hitting my link on the left side of the page.

The man who sells Christmas trees on Manhattan's 96th Street and Lexington Avenue, and who knows the habits of a neighborhood that encompasses the wealthy, the not-wealthy and the getting by, said business is slow, "down at least 25%" from last year. He predicted it would pick up, but expected an increase in the people who see a stated price as the starting point of negotiations. "There'll be more hagglers. 'The recession, I'm bleedin', work with me.'"

I've always wanted to do a story with a person that sold Christmas trees from the lot. Or watch the people and listen in on the conversations that take place. I think it would be interesting. I did a story with the Christmas Tree farm a few years ago but it was prior to it opening to the public as more of a preview. That is the photo that is above!

Isn't there a scene in the first Lethal Weapon movie where they're at a place selling Christmas trees? And the guys selling them are bad guys? Anyway, whenever I see a place like that selling Christmas trees, I think of that movie. I know, I'm weird. ;-)

So it begins...

My schedule starts picking up again today as the class I teach at UNL (JGen 300) starts. I'm teaching on Tuesday's and Thursday's this semester from 9:30-10:45. I hope I have a great class like last semester. We will see. This will be my third semester teaching the class so I feel a lot more comfortable heading into it. I have all of the weeks figured out and the days will be much busier because I'm trying to pack the three days into two. Maybe one of the students will bring me an apple!
