Vacation -- Day 3

We got up a little later than we hoped. I did go for a jog along Green Bay but I didn't find a great route. I went down to the fishing dock, worked my way back along the resort and then up the hill by the park, down main street, back to the fishing dock and then to the front of the resort. We ended up heading out to a town called Fish Creek, where we would spend most of the vacation.
Along the way we stopped at a candle making shop called Candleworks. The kids were also to dip there own colors onto candles. They liked that.

We first stopped at a small lighthouse on a U.S. Coast Guard installation. They had spots on the grounds where you were forbidden to go. We walked out onto this long dock or something like that to the lighthouse. We started seeing a bunch of seagulls that we called "mines" throughout the trip. There was some tough driving because there were small roads leading into the place. We "skipped" a trip to some sand dunes and we hope to do that on another day because I navigated us on the wrong route. The countryside isn't that much different than Nebraska with fields of crops. But there are more golf courses than I thought. The town of Fish Creek was fun. There are a lot of small shops everywhere.

We walked and walked trying to find a lunch spot called "Diggers". We finally found it after realizing that we left the highway. I had a Digger Dog. It was a hot dog loaded with pickles, cucumbers, green peppers, hot peppers and tomatoes. It was nuts and hard to handle. We then headed to the Peninsula State Park. The ride there was very short because it was just on that part of town.

We headed first to the beach and that was nice. The "mines" tried to grab Colbi's flashy new sunglasses while we were all in the water. The kids grabbed some seashells. It was nice and relaxing.

We also stopped at another lighthouse. We were able to go inside of this one. It had a big anchor sitting outside of it.

We made our way to a big tower in the park where we were able to look out over the bays and horseshoe island. We then went for a short walk/hike down a trail. It gave some good information about the trees.

We also went to a cherry pickin' farm. That was fun. You get to buy and pick cherries right off of the tree and into a shiny, little, red bucket. At that orchard we also did a wine tasting. That was fun and we found some "celebrate" wine for Cheryl.

In the evening we went to a fish boil. We were able to watch it being cooked outside despite this annoying kid that kept talking to himself. There were potatoes, onions and fish. Then the owner came and poured some gas on it all and it had a big flame. Then you go back inside and eat it. Yummm!! It was good. Then we drove back to the resort through some nasty looking clouds and then went swimming at the resort. What a great, busy day!

So it begins...

My schedule starts picking up again today as the class I teach at UNL (JGen 300) starts. I'm teaching on Tuesday's and Thursday's this semester from 9:30-10:45. I hope I have a great class like last semester. We will see. This will be my third semester teaching the class so I feel a lot more comfortable heading into it. I have all of the weeks figured out and the days will be much busier because I'm trying to pack the three days into two. Maybe one of the students will bring me an apple!
