I got up at a decent time and ran the drawbridge over Green Bay. That was fun running over water like that. It makes the run along Highway 2 rather boring. Bret and I also played catch on the front lawn with our football. Then we got all of our stuff together and it was off for Milwaukee.
As I look at the map though I couldn't help but notice how close we were to Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. So we decided to take a short detour and we found it. At first it felt like a high school stadium. As we walked up the front steps Colbi was concerned that we might be arrested or something. The gates were all locked but then we looked through the big glass doors and the place was hopping with people. They gave tours, restaurants were open. It's probably the biggest tourist spot in all of Green Bay year round. We at inside the stadium at a place called Curly's. I had a great brisket sandwich and the kids played on some video games that put Chuck E. Cheese to shame. Bret and I ventured around awhile but you couldn't see the field unless you went on a tour or if you would be willing to get beat up by the security people. I thought about sneaking in on one of the tours as we were right behind them going up the escalator but then I noticed that you needed a wrist band. I did get a glimpse of the seats though. Then we got back in the Trailblazer and headed for downtown Milwaukee.
We put our stuff into the Marriott quick and then headed for the Miller Brewery tour. It was fun seeing the inner workings of it. The whole thing takes up like 75 acres of land. It's called Miller Valley. At one point they took us into the caves that they used to use to keep the kegs cool.
Then we got to sample some of their Summer Shady or something like that at the Miller Inn. Then we went across the street for more samples. You could have up to 3. They weren't just little samples either.
After the tour was over, we decided to just drive over to Miller Park for the Brewers-Rockies game. It wasn't very far away and we parked in the Giants 1 section. It was a little bit of a walk but not much as it went under the interstate. They have an adjacent little field by the stadium that it appeared a high school game was being played on. The fences were 300 feet. We timed it just right as the doors came open as we walked up to the stadium. We picked up our Ted Simmons bobbleheads and then went to our seats. They were great!
We then saw where certain players were signing autographs and one of them was a favorite of mine, J.J. Hardy. But as we made our way to his section the line was way too long. We walked around the entire field and nearly got a home run batting practice ball. It was a good game with a lot of offense. Hardy didn't get a hit but Prince Fielder hit a home run and that allowed each of the kids to get a free baseball card of his. The Rockies ended up winning 10-6.
We also got to see the famous sausage races, it was one by hot dog. Also during the seventh inning stretch not only do they sing take me out to the ballgame but also roll out the barrel. Bret got sick though and it was sad because that might be his memory from that night. I carried him back to the carry on my back. Poor guy! We got lucky finding our way back to the hotel. We were looking for Wisconsin Ave. that would lead us right back. Milwaukee isn't the nicest town but somehow after a right turn we were on Wisconsin. Our parking was underground and very secure! Almost like entering FBI headquarters or something. We finally got back to the hotel at 10:45 and then to bed.
